Monsters Inside Me season 5 premiere episode

OCTOBER 9th 10 PM E/P.

That episode features our story.

Why should you watch it?

I was chosen for a reality adventure race: 72 Hours: Fijian Jungle as a result of the video submission below. Watch it and get to know Hurricane Rita.

I had the opportunity to fly to Fiji and race through the jungle for 3 days with 2 strangers on a mission to find a briefcase full of cash. Such a fun time! I had no idea how true the words, “I’m a survivor,” were until I returned to the states.

While spending 3 days in the jungle, I ate a slug and within 4 days of being back in the States, visited the emergency room for the first time. After 3 weeks and 5 visits to the emergency rooms resulting in being sent away with crazy, separate diagnoses of dehydration, traveler’s diarrhea, a UTI, sciatic flair, and simple confusion, I was finally admitted to the hospital on my 6th visit by a doctor with some sense.

By then I was 99lbs, grey, incontinent, with nerve damage over half of my body, hallucinating, and incapable of holding a coherent conversation. I was obviously dying.

Yet my lover told me I was beautiful while he stroked my hair. I remember.

My soulmate, champion, and biggest fan, MY KING, not only stayed by my side, moved into the hospital with me, fed me, changed me, cleaned me, and carried me, but also taught me how to walk again after the doctors realized I’d lost all of my reflexes.

He introduced me to yoga, and with nothing but love, paused the dvd over and over again to allow me to get into different positions.

He gave up everything so that I could dance again. It is because of him that 2014 has become “The Year of Dance.”

AND.

I get to marry that amazing, incredibly strong, dedicated, and loving human being on October 4th, 2014.

This ensures we wake up on our 3rd year anniversary as lovers having shared their love with family and friends in Magical Moab, UT.

Save the date. October 9th, 9PM on Animal Planet. Monsters Inside Me.

    Rita,
We watched the Monster in Me you look great! John has cleaned up a bit too much for me however I kind of prefer the ’60’s back woodsman version when you two were with us in the CLC. 🙂 Did you two get to pick your “stunt doubles”, they were pretty close….
Only 3000 cases in history of Rat Lung Worm, you are a very special young lady, John is a very lucky guy and you two are a phenomenally well suited couple and I’m sure your life together will be anything but dull!

I liked the video of you completing PT with Lori while you were with us and then the conclusion of Zumba class…mind over pain.

    How is the book coming?

HAHAHA!! Dr. B! Yeah, Johnny McNoMo’Afro has a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LOOK!!!! 😀 😀 😀 3,000 documented cases in the world. I didn’t get to choose my double. They got the peace sign right! AND the scene where the TV show made me pause to eat the slug on camera. She didn’t quite seem to be in nearly the same amount of pain, though…. hahaha. We miss you! The book is coming along. The show reinspired creativity, and jogged some memories. We are also working on a funny comic strip. 😀

    Rita,
    What kind of comic strip?
Our younger and actually remaining son (our 36 year old died in a fall in the Grand Canyon in August) has an idea for a cartoon based on 3 dogs and their adventures. He ahs been writing scripts but needs someone to do the art work.
Do you happen to know any artist that would like to be in on the ground floor of the next Simpsons???

Congratulations on the marriage! Nothing but happiness for the two of you.

I’m sorry to hear about your son. I have an artist, not that he’s working too incredibly hard on it. 🙂 I’ll ask around, for sure, Dr. B!
